Who We're Looking For

Families and young single people we are looking for

We are looking for people and family units who have made a conscious and deep decision: no longer to endure the frenetic, precarious and often dehumanizing rhythm of contemporary life.

The Baglio welcomes two complementary ways of living: families (parents ideally between 35 and 50, with one or more children) who live in autonomous apartments, and young single people in formation who live in individual rooms and share ample common spaces — kitchen, refectory and workshops.

We are not simply looking for buyers or passive residents. We are looking for those ready to become active and responsible members of a traditional intentional community, founded on Sicilian Slow Living, daily reciprocity, intergenerational transmission of Christian values and Sicilian culture.

Two sections, one same spirit

Families live in private apartments with their own privacy. Young single people in formation live in individual rooms and share ample common spaces (kitchen, refectory, laundry, sauna, gym, study rooms). Both sections belong to the same community under the responsibility of the Chapter of the Wise.

Note on the singles section. The singles section is currently reserved for young men. The modes of growth, community life and character formation are not the same for men and women: a male environment of work, fraternity and discipline allows formation in freedom and serenity. When concrete and motivated requests arrive from young women who wish to live in community among themselves — with their own spaces and rhythms — we will evaluate the opening of a parallel female section.

The historical context and the reasons for this choice

We are living through a historical moment in which many of the certainties on which families and young people have built their lives are fading. Automation and artificial intelligence are redefining the labour market. Large cities are becoming progressively more expensive, anonymous and difficult to manage, while global policies weaken family farming and the food sovereignty of our country.

In this scenario, the possibility of guaranteeing one's children (or oneself) a safe environment, authentic human relationships, access to healthy food and the transmission of solid values is no longer a given. It becomes instead a strategic and generational choice.

Baglio San Michele is born precisely as a concrete and rooted response to these transformations: a place in which to rebuild conditions of stability, autonomy and a sense of belonging that elsewhere are becoming increasingly difficult to preserve.

The deep motivations that guide the choice

Education and growth

Education and growth

You desire a context in which children (or young single people in formation) grow up in contact with nature, with present adults and with clear values to transmit daily, instead of being educated mainly by screens and anonymous institutions.

Stability and security

Stability and security

You seek a predictable and protected place, where it is possible to plan the future without the continuous anxiety of sudden change or precariousness.

Quality of relationships

Quality of relationships

You want to build real and lasting bonds with people who share the same values, instead of living in contexts where relationships remain superficial.

Transmission of values

Transmission of values

You are aware that faith, tradition and the sense of responsibility must be lived daily, not only taught in words.

The ideal profiles for the pilot project

Families seeking normality
HIGH PRIORITY

Families seeking normality

They live in the chaos of the large cities and feel every day the difficulty of raising children in a frenetic, anonymous and precarious environment. They feel like strangers in their own city, almost treated as enemies by those who govern them by imposing an ethnic substitution for which no one has voted. They desire a concrete alternative: a place where children can have stability, authentic relationships and a rooted future. A place in which to discover the privilege of normality.

Young single people in formation
HIGH PRIORITY

Young single people in formation

Single people (predominantly young men) who wish to live a period of human, spiritual and practical formation within a stable community. They lodge in individual rooms and share ample common spaces that guarantee them all the comforts of a healthy life. They take part in work, apprenticeship (Archivum Artium) and community life, with the prospect of maturing a longer rooting and of founding a family.

Traditional Catholic orientation
HIGH PRIORITY

Traditional Catholic orientation

For whom the spiritual dimension and the transmission of the Christian faith are not optional. They seek a context in which faith can be lived and transmitted naturally within a community that actively supports it.

Craftsmanship and trades

Oriented toward craftsmanship and trades

People who believe in the value of manual work, concrete competence and the intergenerational transmission of trades. They desire a place in which these skills can be learned, exercised and handed down, actively contributing to the life of the community. Some of them are already craftsmen and want to teach what they know; others want to learn a trade that will ensure them economic independence and autonomy of life. People who look to the future with foresight, knowing that certain professions, today almost disappeared, will soon be indispensable and sought after.

Sicilian Slow Living

Oriented toward Sicilian Slow Living

People tired of frenzy, standardization and the loss of the measure of time. They seek a slower, more authentic and harmonious pace of life with the landscape and the seasons of the Iblean territory.

The selection and admission process

The admission process to Baglio San Michele is gradual and reciprocal. It is not a simple real-estate transaction, but a process of mutual knowledge aimed at verifying values alignment and the willingness to actively contribute to community life. The same path applies both to families and to young single people in formation.
