The Baglio San Michele project does not intend to cultivate the sense of community only within itself, but aspires to extend it in a living and generative way also externally, fully integrating into the social, economic and cultural fabric of the Ragusano territory.
This openness is not accessory, but constitutive of its identity as a traditional intentional community rooted in Christian faith and Sicilian culture: a bastion of normality that does not close in on itself, but cooperates for the common good and the prosperity of the entire Ragusano area.
Construction sites and local craftsmen
For this reason, strategic partnerships with companies, artisans and associations from every sector linked to the Baglio’s activities are actively cultivated and encouraged. In Phase 1 of the integral restoration of the 16th-century fortified farmhouse and in Phase 2 of the construction of the twenty new rural buildings in Iblean stone, restoration and new construction works will be entrusted exclusively to external professional companies and craftsmen.
Professionals and companies involved
Of particular importance are the stone cutters expert in the processing of Modica stone and Iblean territory stone, carpenters, blacksmiths, plumbers, electricians, tilers, floor and wall covering installers, window and door fitters, painters specialized in traditional techniques, as well as all other professional figures and artisanal companies operating in conservative restoration and rural construction according to Iblean canons.
Short supply chain and relations with the territory
Equally important is the relationship with neighboring farms and productive companies in the Ragusano area: fruitful exchanges of goods, services and knowledge will be established, strengthening the short supply chain and local self-sufficiency in line with the Sicilian Slow Living model.
Training, culture and artistic heritage
Transmission of trades
Baglio San Michele is committed to promoting training courses for the intergenerational transmission of rural and artisanal trades, contributing to preserving and enhancing the territory’s heritage of skills.
Enhancement of artistic heritage
The Baglio is committed to opening quality cultural activities to the community and to creating a permanent exhibition of works of art that are currently not museumized.
In this perspective, Baglio San Michele wants to be a living and active part of the social body: a place that does not limit itself to offering stable residence to selected families, but that generates authentic relationships, concrete opportunities and shared beauty.
